Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier says his office is making progress in its investigation of two similar strong-armed robberies which occurred recently in the village.
The robberies occurred at two different Coalton residences on Dec. 25 and Dec. 28. In both cases, a masked female robber forced her way into the homes after knocking on the doors, then robbed elderly female victims of cash.
Frazier says he believes the same female committed both of these robberies and he confirmed there is a suspect in the investigation although no arrests have been made. The sheriff also noted a $500 reward is being offered in the case, thanks to a contribution by an anonymous citizen. The reward will be paid if a suspect is eventually convicted of the robberies.
The Sheriff's Office is also continuing to investigate a robbery which occurred on the night of Dec. 18 at The Detour convenience store, which also resulted in the theft of cash. However, that robbery was committed by a masked male and investigators feel it is not linked to the two residential robberies.
There is no suspect in that case, but Sheriff Frazier is hoping that some recovered clothing which the robber may have been wearing may help in the progress of that investigation.
