Jackson area man killed when pinned underneath flatbed truck
A 43-year-old man was killed in a freak accident Wednesday afternoon, November 6, at his residential property located about four miles west of Jackson.

Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier reports that Johnnie R. Brewer, Jr., 2013 Jisco West Road, Jackson, died as the result of injuries suffered when he was pinned underneath a flatbed rollback truck, which had rolled from the spot where it had been parked on his property. The incident was reported to the sheriff's office at 12:52 p.m.

Emergency responders were able to free the victim from underneath the truck, but the injuries proved to be fatal. Brewer was taken by Jackson County EMS to Holzer Medical Center-Jackson where he was declared dead a short time later.

Jackson County Coroner Dr. Gregory Hawker told The Telegram the victim was crushed in the chest and abdomen and died as a result of massive internal injuries.

Another local man who was standing near Brewer when the flatbed truck rolled was also struck, but he was able to move out of its way and was not injured. The flatbed truck had been parked in order to load a car and deputies said the tires had been chocked and the truck appeared to be secure. However, it somehow began to move, struck the two men, pinned Brewer, and rolled about another 50 to 60 feet before stopping.

In addition to the sheriff's office, Jackson County EMS, and the Liberty Township Fire Department were also called to the scene. A medical helicopter was also summoned, but was not utilized.

Funeral services for Brewer were held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson.
