The future of after-school program funding was on the mind of Gallia-Vinton Educational Service Center Superintendent Dr. Denise Shockley when she addressed the Wellston City School Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting on Monday night, Feb. 12.

2018 Apple Festival Queen Contest set for March 31 at 7 p.m. in JMS Auditorium
The Apple Festival Committee has announced Saturday, March 31, 2018, as the date of the 2018 Jackson Apple Festival Queen's Contest. The contest will be held at the Jackson Middle School Auditorium starting at 7 p.m.

Love, hugs for seniors on Hug Your Heart Day
Valentine's Day is supposed to be about showing and sharing love and 123 senior citizens were on the receiving end at the 7th Annual "Hug Your Heart Day" held Wednesday, Feb. 14 at the Jackson Area YMCA. Counting the agency representatives and volunteers who helped put on the event, nearly 200 persons were in attendance.

Jackson Apple Festival announces Little Miss Apple Festival Queen's Contest, on March 30
The Jackson Area Festivals & Events, along with Jayda Montgomery, the 2017 "Little Miss Apple Festival Queen," invite all Jackson County resident misses who will be between the ages of five and seven years on Sept. 22, 2018, to compete in the 2018 "Little Miss Apple Festival Queen's Contest," set for Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Jackson Middle School Auditorium.
