Upward leader is 'Hometown Hero'

A young man who has spearheaded the efforts in recent years to provide Christian-based youth recreation programs in the Jackson area has been selected by the Jackson chapter of Modern Woodmen of America as its local "Hometown Hero" for 2017.

Although the road has not always been an easy path from a modest beginnings in 1876, the history of a higher education institution in Rio Grande has been one of tough times, such as fire; preservation and triumphs such as the raising of the Alumni Bell Tower. It is the journey that co-authors Jake Bapst and Ivan Tribe, University of Rio Grande Professors, portray through the pages of their new book entitled University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College.

Two-part History Hunt begins Monday
Attention, local history sleuths and scavenger-hunt fans: The Jackson History Hunt will commence this Monday, June 26.

The Jackson History Hunt, which is being conducted in conjunction with the City of Jackson's 4th of July activities, will be conducted in two parts and is being sponsored by the City of Jackson, the Lillian E. Jones Museum and The Telegram/The Radio. The event will be conducted in two parts at two different times.
