Red Hat Razzle Dazzle Ladies to Meet in Wellston April 27

The Red Hat Razzle Dazzle Ladies will meet at the Wellston Senior Citizens Center on Friday, April 27 beginning at 11 a.m. and will have lunch with the seniors. "Remember to bring a food item for the food bank," a club member reminds.

Opening Reception for Artist Brad Painter's Exhibit at Markay April 27

The community is invited to an opening reception for artist Brad Painter's exhibit on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at the Markay Cultural Arts Center in downtown Jackson. The exhibit, entitled "A Box of Chocolates from Crayons to Bronze," will run through May 29. Grilled Steak Dinner at American Legion Post in Jackson May 3

A Grilled Steak Dinner will be held Thursday, May 3 at the American Legion Post in Jackson on Morton Street. The menu will include a 16-oz. porterhouse steak for $15 or a 12-oz. ribeye for $12. Sides include tossed salad and baked potatoes. Extras can be purchased of grilled onions and mushrooms. Dessert, water, tea or coffee are included. Soft drinks may be purchased. Serving time will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. "Please come out and support your veterans," a spokesman invites. Both carry-out or eat-in will be available. Future dinners are planned for the first Thursday of each month.

Team Athens Cycling Bicycle Race at Lake Hope State Park May 6

Team Athens Cycling of Athens, Ohio has scheduled a bicycle race at Lake Hope State Park for Sunday, May 6. This is a USA Cycling sanctioned event. There will be morning and afternoon races divided into several different age groups, ranging in age from nine years old to 60+. The course begins at the entrance to the boat house at Lake Hope State Park and is a 20-mile loop around the state park. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the first race starts at 10 a.m. Spectators are welcome. Please contact Art Smith at 740-590-6499 with questions.

Jackson Presbyterian Church "Friday Feasts" April 27 and May 11

A "Friday Feast" at the Presbyterian Church of Jackson, located at 225 Church St. (across from Apple Tower), will be held on Friday, April 27 and Friday, May 11, with serving from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (or until food runs out). The Friday Feasts are held regularly on the second Friday of each month and the last Friday of each month. The menu varies each time; volunteers cook a combination of traditional, home-style foods and creative culinary experiences. "Come join us for food and fellowship; all are welcome," a spokesman invites.

"Libraries Rock" Teen Summer Reading at Wellston Library

The Sylvester Memorial Wellston Public Library is happy to announce the "Libraries Rock" Teen Summer Reading Program. The program is created for teens that have completed the 6th grade through 12th grade and will take place on Thursdays, June 14 to July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. Teens are invited to come to the library to check out books and read for prizes as well as to take part in special events. Miss Vickie has a fun-filled summer planned with many creative programs. Teens will enjoy getting in touch with their artistic side with Nellie Dog Pottery and New York artist Michael Albert. They will delight in the whimsical art of the Henna Faerie, Penni Alzayer and be inspired to design their own art with local artists Pam Evans, Wendy Davis and Darling Creations. These events are free but registration is required. Teens may register now through May 31. Unfortunately, there can be no registration after May 31 due to planning. Wellston High School Alumni Banquet Tickets on Sale

Wellston High School Alumni President John Pelletier has announced that tickets for this year's Wellston High School Alumni Banquet are now available. The 128th Annual Wellston Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 26 at Wellston Middle School. Ticket price includes a fully catered social hour which will begin at 5 p.m. and the Alumni Banquet will start at 6 p.m. Cost of each ticket is $20. Tickets are for sale at Brodigan's Sports and Trophies on South Ohio Avenue in Wellston.

Registration Dates, April 27-28, for #CooperStrong 5K (Race, May 5)

Upcoming open registrations for the 3rd annual #CooperStrong 5K. (a memorial run for Emileigh Jo Cooper) have been announced. There will be registration stations at the Jackson YMCA on Friday, April 27 from 2 to 8 p.m. and at at Rowdy's Smokehouse on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to closing. The 3rd Annual Emileigh Jo Cooper "Cooperstrong" 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, May 26 - starting at JMS and ending at JHS. Same-day registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race at 8 a.m.; early registration fee is $20, or $15 for a student athlete or softball alumni player; $30 registration fee on Race Day. Jackson County Dog Pound Yard Sale at Christ U.M. Church May 5

The Jackson County Dog Pound Yard Sale is set for Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, corner of Portsmouth and Broad Streets, Jackson. "Support the dogs and find some great deals!" a spokesman invites. For more information, contact the dog pound at 740-286-7262. Items for the sale can be dropped off the night before.
