The Lay Lenten Luncheons, sponsored by the Jackson Ministerial Association from 12 to 12:50 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, located on Broadway Street. The luncheons will be: Feb. 28, Mar. 7, Mar. 14, and Mar. 21. This year's theme is "Unity in Faith." Each week, a different church will provide the soup-and-sandwich luncheon, and a lay person to share a brief devotion on the theme. A freewill offering will be taken each week, with the donations divided among: The Jackson Food Pantry, The Good Samaritan Fund, and The Jackson Homelessness Committee. Chinese Auction on March 2nd at VC South Elementary
VC PTO: Vinton County's South Elementary School's PTO will be holding their annual Chinese Auction on Friday, March 2nd. Tickets can be purchased from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the drawing beginning at 7. The winner does not have to be present. Ticket prices are 1 sheet of 25 tickets for $3 or 2 sheets for $5. Some of the items in the auction include a new American Girl Doll, tickets for entertainment places, miscellaneous gift cards, tools, thirty-one, household goods, craft items, Scentsy, and kids' items. New items arriving daily! A Bolva 55" 4K UHD TV will be raffled off as well, for $1 per raffle ticket. Concessions will be for sale. "Dinosaur Delight" for Preschoolers at Jackson Library Feb. 21
The Jackson City Library will be having a "Dinosaur Delight" theme at its next Preschool Book and Playtime on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. Any child age 3-5 is invited to attend this approximately 30-minute program filled with stories, songs, finger plays, and a craft. First Friday Feasts at First Presbyterian Feb. 23, March 9
The First Friday Feast will be held the second Friday and the last Friday of each month, at the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson at 225 Church St., Jackson (across from apple tower), from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (or until food runs out). This is a free meal cooked by volunteers, with a combination of traditional, home-style foods and culinary experiences. "Come and join us for food and fellowship, all are welcome," a spokesman invites. The next scheduled First Friday Feasts will be on Feb. 23 and March 9.
Reserve by Feb. 25 for Wellston Ecumenical Day of Prayer, March 3
The Wellston Ecumenical Day of Prayer will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Fellowship Church, located across the street from the Wellston Senior Citizens Building on South New York Avenue. Reservations must be in by Sunday, Feb. 25. Luncheon will be provided by ladies of Grace Baptist Fellowship Church, and the program will be provided by ladies of the Hope United Methodist Church. Appalachian Longbeards 25th Annual WTF Banquet March 3
Members of the Appalachian Longbeards Chapter will hold their 25th Annual National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet at Canters Cave 4-H Camp on Saturday, March 3 at 5 p.m. There will be a prime rib dinner, gun raffles and live and silent auctions for art, furniture and other items. Support the organization that helped with the restoration of wild turkeys, and continues its efforts in habitat and quality management. Jackson Chamber Spring Showcase March 23 & 24
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce 2018 Business Spring Showcase is set for the weekend of Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, at the JHS Field House. Public hours will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vending spaces are available now - a 10'x10' spot costs just $150 (in addition to a local Chamber-member affiliation). The Showcase will feature once again, "A Taste of Jackson" (the food court, $75 per spot); grand-prize drawings and lots of family-friendly fun.
