9/12/2017 3:49:00 PM Farm-City Field Day set for Thursday, Sept. 14
The 56th Annual Farm-City Field Day, sponsored by the Jackson County Farmers Club, will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Circle M Farms. The farm is located on State Route 776 just south of State Route 32.
The farm tour will look at and discuss the farms feed mill operation, hay management and handling with a demonstration of converting round bales into small square bales, pasture management, the beef operation which includes a commercial herd and a registered herd, and the feed lot operation where the farms commercial calves are finished hormone free and the beef sold at the farm.
The program and tour will begin at 3 p.m. There will also be exhibits and displays from local businesses and agencies.
The traditional roast beef meal will be served at 6 p.m. at a cost of $6 per person or a sandwich only for $5.
"With the founding goals still in mind, organizers of this event hope to continue the promotion of agriculture, encouraging good farming practices, and providing an opportunity for our urban neighbors to see what farmers are doing, with the hope of fostering a better understanding of the food and agricultural issues that face our society today," a spokesman said. "Everyone is invited so please make plans to attend."
