The Southeastern Ohio Organization of Operation Christmas Child, a program of Samaritan's Purse, will host Nadia Karnatova, who as a young child was a recipient of an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox, as a guest speaker at a picnic on Sunday, July 16. The event will be held at the Trinity Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union, located at 14545 SR 93, Jackson, at 1:30 p.m., when Nadia will share her personal story and the importance of the gifts she received from Operation Christmas Child.

Nadia Karnatova grew up in Ukraine in a large family. Although God always provided for them, they had very little, she said. One Christmas when she was around 9 years old, Nadia and all of her siblings received a shoebox from a local church. It was the first moment she felt God's true presence, she added.

When Nadia opened her shoebox, she saw a brand new Barbie doll with pink shoes. She had seen a Barbie on TV before but never thought she would have one. Through generosity of strangers, God gave Nadia's family hope, strengthening their faith in Him, she said.

In 2000, Nadia's family moved to the United States. Today, Nadia lives in Ohio and loves to pack shoeboxes with her three children.

"Come join us and bring some friends; you will be touched by Nadia's message and will be inspired to pray more and pack more shoeboxes," a spokesman invites. "Bring a covered dish for the picnic to share. Hamburgers, hot dogs and table service will be provided."

With any questions, interested persons may call Jerry or Ruth Brown at 740-332-1642.
