The Oak Hill Festival of Flags' Annual Karaoke Contest is scheduled for Friday, May 26. The event is sponsored by Main Express of Oak Hill. Contestants will take to the stage to sing their favorite songs, in hopes of bringing home the title of first-place winner; and the winner will get his or her own show time on the festival stage the next night. The third-place winner will receive $50, second-place winner will receive $100, and the first-place winner of the contest will receive $200. Anyone interested in competing in the contest can sign up between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Friday, at the Festival of Flags Information Booth. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26.
"Patriotic Pretty Baby Contest" May 27
The Oak Hill Festival of Flags will once again be hosting a Pretty Baby Contest. This year, contestants are asked to be dressed in patriotic attire. The "Patriotic Pretty Baby Contest" will be held Saturday, May 27 beginning at noon, on the festival stage in Aetna Park; and registration begins at 11 a.m. Children ages newborn through four years old can compete. Children should be dressed in patriotic attire for this event. The fee for early sign-up is $10 per child. On the day of the contest, registration will be $15. Youth Fishing Tourney at Lake Jackson May 27
The Oak Hill Festival of Flags will have a Youth Fishing Tournament on Saturday, May 27 at Lake Jackson. Youth to ages 17 may participate to win prizes, and there is no cost to participate. Youth wishing to compete should register at the shelter house by the beach on Tommy Been Road, before casting a line. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the tournament will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The last fish must be turned in at the shelter house by 11:30 a.m.; and a casting contest will also begin at 11:30 a.m. Prizes and awards will be distributed at noon. The event is sponsored and hosted by the Madison-Jefferson Firefighters.
Car Show on Memorial Day, May 29
The annual Festival of Flags Car Show, sponsored by WesBanco Bank, will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. The car show is open to vehicles of all models and years. Trailered vehicles are also welcome; and car clubs are invited to attend. There is a $10 entry fee per car. The first 100 cars entered will receive dash plaques. The Car Show registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, and judging begins at noon. Entries will be judged by a point system. Twenty trophies will be awarded, including: Best of Show, Best G.M., Best Ford, Best Mopar, Best Non-Big 3, and Best Truck. A 50/50 drawing and more than $500 in door prizes will be raffled. Raffle proceeds to support Festival of Flags
The Festival of Flags Committee is selling chances on three cash prizes to be given away on Memorial Day. Prizes are: $1,000 cash, $500 cash, and $250 cash. Raffle tickets cost $10 each. Purchase tickets at: Williams Fuel Stop in Oak Hill and Elizabeth's Flowers in Jackson; or they can be purchased at the Festival of Flags Information Booth during the festival, or at the Queens' Pageant on May 25. Proceeds from this raffle help to support the queen's scholarship and the festival's free entertainment.
