The Make Wellston Beautiful (MWB) Committee was awarded a $1,000 grant Tuesday afternoon, March 7, by local McDonald's® Owner/Operator, Brad Munn, through the McDonald's of the Tri-State Community Grants Program.

This new incentive awards local organizations for programs that support youth and recreation, beautification, support for seniors, or support of the arts in the Tri-State area. MWB is one of 21 chosen in the area as a recipient of a grant.

The new program is supported by McDonald's Owner/Operators of the Tri-State area, which covers Central West Virginia, Southeastern Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky. The goal of the program is to encourage community organizations to implement programs that improve local communities. The $1,000 grants must be used toward execution of the selected programs.

MWB will use the grant to upgrade and maintain youth baseball, softball and soccer fields, install a new sound system, build a six-mile walking path in the city, concession facilities and play areas in city parks.

"We are excited to be investing in the Wellston community as this is a very worthwhile project," said Munn. "This was a good application and we appreciate the committee for submitting it." Munn owns local McDonald's restaurants in Jackson, Oak Hill, Wellston and McArthur.

McDonald's of the Tri-State area is comprised of 94 restaurants in Eastern Kentucky, Southeastern Ohio and Central and Southern West Virginia. Ninety-nine percent of the restaurants in this area are independently owned and operated by local franchisees.
