A new business, which features antiques, crafts and a monthly flea market, has opened in Wellston at the site of the former Summers Home Center at 107 West Broadway Street.
In deference to the local history of the place, the new business will be called The Home Center Plus. Wellston resident and teacher Tad Lockard is the owner and Wellston area resident Linda Halley is the manager. It opened in late December, but this weekend is expected to be a big one as the first monthly flea market will be conducted.
"It's our goal to help bring business back to downtown Wellston," Halley commented. "Wellston needs new businesses and we wanted to create something good for Wellston." She noted the new store got a big early boost when it hosted a benefit event for the Humane Society of Jackson County on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16-17.
Halley explained that The Home Center Plus will have three main sections: One for antiques and crafts, a second for closeout/overstock general merchandise (including housewares, hardware and furniture), and a third where flea markets will be conducted on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. The store will have some of its own antique and craft items for sale, but will also be renting space to vendors. Space will also be rented to flea market vendors.
In addition to the monthly flea market, a craft vendor show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5.
Halley brings approximately 30 years of local retail experience to The Home Center Plus and has worked at Walmart, Cato and Dollar General.
The hours for The Home Center Plus are: Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for flea market weekend when the hours that particular Saturday and Sunday will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
