The Vinton County High School Class of 2018 students have a chance to apply for a $5,000 scholarship from the Energy Optimizers Group.
The company recently performed a big LED lighting project in all the schools. During the Vinton County Board of Education meeting held Monday evening, March 19, Senior Project Manager Dave Eshbaugh explained students wanting to enter the energy field as a career can apply. Applicants must write an essay about an energy-related topic and get two letters of recommendation.
Superintendent of Schools Rick Brooks told Eshbaugh the Vinton County High School Guidance Department is excited about the company's new scholarship opportunity and has put out information to the students. So far, he adds, two students have picked up packets about the scholarship. "We thank Energy Optimizers for providing this opportunity for our graduating seniors," said Brooks.
During other parts of the meeting, the board approved several other items of business. Those requests approved were:
* Julia Thacker and Natalie Graves to transport students in their own vehicles.
* An agreement with Clydia Spears to steam-clean underneath the buses for $100 per bus at the end of the year.
* An agreement with Brenda Wilcoxen to clean the inside and outside of the buses for $100 per vehicle at the end of the year.
* A field trip for the Vikings' baseball team to attend a major league baseball game in Pittsburgh on April 7.
*Three student trips: The Future Farmers of America trip to the Ohio Expo Center May 3-4; the Student Leadership Retreat at Hocking Hills May 21-24; and the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct 23-26.
