Vinton County Title I Coordinator Terry Snider (standing, right) welcomed everyone to the annual Vinton County Schools Spelling Bee and she also congratulated the students for participating.
The word "legalese", the language of the legal profession, proved to be the winning one for Ashlee Bentley as she won the Vinton County Local Schools Spelling Bee, which was held Thursday night, Feb. 15 at West Elementary School.
The event was hosted by West Elementary Principal Mary Ann Hale and Title One Coordinator Teresa Snider while Pam Toon served as the pronouncer.
Bentley is a fifth-grader at South Elementary School and it came down to her and second-place finisher Central Elementary fifth-grader Hayden Reynolds, before Bentley earned the championship by spelling "legalese."
Both Bentley and Reynolds were presented trophies by Superintendent Rick Brooks. Snider thanked everyone for coming to the event and for supporting the Vinton County Local Schools and the students attending them.
