Vinton County West Elementary school teacher Lorrie Hamon has been recognized as an Ohio School Board Association's Outstanding Faculty Member for the Southeast Region because all of her students passed the American Institutes for Research (AIR) Test.
During the Vinton County Local Board of Education meeting on Monday evening, Nov. 6, Hamon was introduced to the board by Assistant Superintendent/West Elementary Principal Mary Ann Hale.
Hale stated, "Lorrie is a fine and dedicated teacher who is working hard for her students. We are fortunate to have her." She was also congratulated by Superintendent Rick Brooks and the board for her dedication and for challenging students to achieve and do the best they possibly can.
In employment matters, the board hired Marsha Ward and Jennifer Graves as aides. Also employed were the following Project Boost After-School positions: (Coordinator) Billilyn Davison; (Certified Teachers) Amy Mullins, Danielle Ramage and Sonya Tennent; (Certified Tutor) Amy Walker; (Non-Certified Aides) Ana Miller and Kristen Emmert; (Non-Certified Tutors) Christine Scarberry and Mary Fee. Davidson was also hired as a substitute teacher.
The board also filled supplemental positions with the following individuals: Varsity Wrestling Coach: Marcus Games; Middle School Wrestling Coach: Alex Bunnell; Middle School Girls Track Coach: Melanie Signoracci; and Middle School Boys Track Coach: Josiah Hauck.
The board also approved the following as volunteers: Bethan Ruckel, middle school girls basketball; Mary Beth Guthrie, junior high boys basketball; Steve Reed and Tyler Ward, junior high boys basketball; and Brandon Grigsby, volunteer wresting coach.
In other personnel action, the board accepted the resignation of Amy Mullins as the Project Boost Coordinator, effective Oct. 30, 2017.
