The new Family Dollar Store in Wilkesville is under construction as crews from Perman Engineering in Rainbow City, Alabama and Hutton's Excavation are now on site. The site of the new store is adjacent to the Wilton Community Building, across the street from the park and down the street from the Highway 160 Restaurant.
Earlier, crews tore down a house and a business at the site to make way for the store. Currently, the footers have been dug and the floors are being installed. The store is being built on the back end of the property while the parking lot will be at the front of the store with a turn-in access from State Route 160.
The site-preparation phase has been going on for some time and now the building will be rising soon as the North Carolina-based national retailer will be opening its second store in Vinton County with the other being located in McArthur. The Family Dollar organization operates 8,000 stores in 46 states and has several other stores in the local area.
Local officials are pleased about the chain coming to Wilkesville. Village Mayor Catherine Bowles recently told The Telegram she met with officials from Family Dollar's Cincinnati Office before they decided to locate a store in the village. The mayor asserts the store will do well in the village as residents will be not to have to drive to nearby communities for everyday items. The new store is expected to open sometime this summer.
