3/15/2017 3:07:00 PM Letter: Taxes increases: 'The Old Ballgame!'
To The Editor:
One of our local district representatives is talking that "The Ballgame is just beginning!!" As I read the Dispatch this morning (02-22-17) I think the "Fix" is already in the late innings!! To put the following in the proper perspective I submit the following:
Those on Social Security and other U.S. Government pension plans (I do not know about Russian pension plans) received a huge .0031 percent increase in their pensions. In my case about $3.93 a month-this was quickly reduced to $0.00 by the cost of Medicare Part B premiums. The newspaper stated that those of us who own and operate cars or trucks are going to see the cost of a "county clerk" transaction go from $3.50 to $5.25! A 50 percent increase. This is needed, the article said; this was in order to "ensure the system remain viable". If I remember correctly, the present clerk turned about $45,000 over to the Jackson County Commissioners. This does NOT sound like something that needs to be fixed-if anything the fee should be lowered!
The next item was the amount that the county commissioners can charge for a plate on each vehicle registered in the county-presently it is $10-this would be raised to $15! Another 50 percent increase.
Folks-the good people in this county are hard-working and expect to be treated fairly. Increases of this magnitude because the state income tax cuts over the past years have left Ohio with no way to balance any budget-except on the backs of the middle and lower class. I understand the proposed income tax cut will net a family of four in the middle class income level, about $4-what a bargain.
Representative Smith is NOT being truthful about his and other Republicans' actions in regard to tax increases.
