The annual Wellston Lions Club Halloween Costume Contest will be held Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at the intersection of First Street and Ohio Avenue in Wellston. The event is for children ages infant to 12 years of age.
Bracelet-Making Workshop to Boost Growing Oaks Program Oct. 26
"Bring a Ball, Have a Ball!" at the Jackson Senior Citizens Center, located at 25 E. Mound St., Jackson, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, for a bracelet-making workshop. The only admission "fee" is a new or gently-used toy, to be donated to the Growing Oaks Program. If you can't attend but want to donate, drop a toy at your local center or at the RSVP office, 243 E. Main St., Jackson. "Make a beautiful crystal bracelet; it is open to everyone," a spokesman invites. RSVP is encouraged for head-count purposes. Annual "Trunk or Treat" & Bean Dinner at Calvary Oct. 28
Calvary United Methodist Church will host its Annual "Trunk or Treat" for the kids on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m., and there will also be a Bean Dinner this year with beans, cornbread, assorted desserts and drinks. "Trick or Treat Halloween Fun" Story Time at Oak Hill Library Oct. 29
The Fall Story Time session will be held Monday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. in the children's section at the Oak Hill Public Library. The session will last approximately one hour and is open to all children ages 3 through 5 years old. There will be stories, activities, and crafts relating to the Halloween theme. Children are asked to wear their Halloween costumes.
Trick-or-Treat at Harvey Wells House in Wellston Oct. 31

"Catch the Spirit" Lady Oaks Softball Car Show Oct. 20
The 3rd Annual "Catch the Spirit" Lady Oaks Softball Car Show & Fall Fundraiser will be held at Oak Hill High School, 5063 SR 93, Oak Hill, on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car show registration is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; car judging starts at 12 p.m.; trophies awarded at 2:30 p.m. There will be top-20 trophies in addition to trophies for Best Ford, Best Chevy, Best Mopar, Lady Oaks Choice, and Coaches Choice. "Freakin' Out at the Furnace," a Halloween Party Oct. 20
"Freakin' Out at the Furnace" is set for Saturday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Buckeye Furnace. This will be a Halloween Party rather than an outdoor trail event, due to the recent weather. There will be a children's maze for the younger, more sensitive youths; singing pumpkins, the mad scientist, the fortune teller and a variety of scary folks to have fun with; perhaps even a clown to give away balloons to anyone brave enough to go and get them! There will be costume contests for ages 0-1; 2-3; 4-6; 7-9; 10-12; 13-17; 18 and up. There will be a variety of medals, trophies and gift cards for participants; fun for all ages. Food and beverages will be for sale, including creepy chili and frankenfurters; pulled mysterious meat sandwiches and of course, s'mores makin' for the bonfire! "Come and have fun with Crazy Janni and do the Conga Line around the bonfire," a ghoulish spokesman invites. "It will be a hot time in the old furnace that night - bring your lawn chairs; ours have been eaten!"
Homecoming Service at Father's House in Wellston Oct. 21
A Homecoming Service will be held at Father's House, located at Berlin Crossroads, Wellston, on Sunday, Oct. 21 Services begin at 10 a.m.; preaching will be by Bro. Carson Sexton, with special singers, "Singing Praises." A covered-dish dinner will follow at noon. Pastor Rick Kincaid and the church invite all to attend.
"Honor Our Veterans Night" at University of Rio Grande Oct. 27
"Honor Our Veterans Night" will be observed at The University of Rio Grande on Saturday, Oct. 27 with a featured presentation by Jim Marshall and the Veteran of the Year Award. There will be a display dedication at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Davis University Center Cafeteria. All veterans will be honored; a spaghetti dinner will be served to all veterans and their families; the 2018 award winner will be announced at the awards ceremony following dinner; an exhibit of veterans' memorabilia from local veterans will be on display; and all veterans will have free entrance into all athletic events at Rio Grande during 2018-2019.
Jackson Elks #466 Annual Charity Dinner/Auction Nov. 3
The Jackson Elks #466 will hold their Annual Charity Dinner & Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Carl R. Dobbins Fidelity Hall behind the Lodge, starting at 6 p.m. Dinner will include homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and dessert, all for $7. A live auction will follow the dinner at 7 p.m. and all proceeds will be donated to Elks charities.
